Each of our issues is laid out by the boutique design studio Paper Pusher.
While professional framers are always an option, framing work on your own is actually not that hard. You can find a great selection of affordable frames at secondhand stores, but larger department stores and art stores generally have a decent selection as well. Try to get a frame that already has a mat in it. If need be, a framer can cut you a custom mat for far less than it would cost to have them do the whole job. We are fans of the simple frame: either black, white, or birch, because those frames let the artwork do the talking, and go with most decor. You can buy acid-free tape at most art stores.
Here is a great tutorial on how to frame your own art.
Ironing the crease out works best on uncoated paper. On coated, or glossy, paper, the iron may stick to the surface. Always place a piece of paper between your print and the iron, and iron on a flat surface with the art side down. Don’t let the iron linger for too long in once place: keep it moving as you pass it over the crease.
Here are some great step-by-step instructions on removing creases from paper.
Tube shipping is prohibitively expensive, to the point that using it would triple the cost of a subscription. Because our mandate is to make art accessible and affordable for everyone, this big price increase isn’t appealing to us, and we trust that it isn’t appealing to you, either.
Interested artists can also submit their work through our open call for Submissions, which receives hundreds of entries each year.
